Outside Views

Beautiful flowering crabapple trees line the concrete and brick circle drive of this amazing 100 year old Victorian home on 33 acres in the Panhandle of Texas.

Peaceful country setting, yet just 2 miles from downtown Canyon (pop 12,000)
Wrap-around porch provides a shady spot to sit and enjoy a pleasant breeze and lemonade.

Exceptional landscaping with 20+ trees in an area of the country where trees are rare. Sprinkler system with 147 sprinkler heads!

White steel siding/soffets plus green metal roof never need replacing and look classy!

stairwell

Original front door with handcarved woodwork and cut glass welcomes you to this lovely 5 BR 3 bath home.

Artfully handgrained woodwork was fashionable for the wealthy in the early 1900s

Hand-turned spindles and knobs add character and charm.

From the bottom of the stairs - notice the Elegant back-lighted stained glass window (27x67").

From the top of the stairs.

The library

Notice the pretty ceiling fan - one of 12 ceiling fans in this incredible house!! The original crown -molding decorates this comfortable 15 x 14.5' room.

The wood/coal stove is original to the house. It is functional but not necessary with 2 heat pumps for central heat and air in addition to 2 gas furnaces plus plenty of insulation which keep the utility costs in this 3800 sf home lower than a house half its size.

The Living Room

The living room - notice the 9" high baseboards, corner posts and door headers which are found throughout the house.....even INSIDE the closets!!

A swinging door into the dining room adds old-fashioned charm.

2 windows provide lots of sunlight and make this 15 x 15 room cheerful and homey. The era-appropriate lace curtains and all blinds and shades throughout the house are included!

The Dining Room

The 15 x 10.5' dining room has beautiful hardwood floors and is comfortable even with all 4 of our leaves in the table for guests!

Doorways to the living room and library off the dining room with an old-timey clock ticking away the hours.

A old-fashioned telephone is a conversation piece and is useful for conversations to those far away!! It comes with the house.

The Kitchen

The kitchen, like the rest of the house, is completely remodeled and updated. All new wiring and plumbing throughout. This Whirlpool refrigerator comes with the house.

At 13 x 9.5' the kitchen has plenty of storage and makes cooking easy. The whirlpool dishwasher and garbage disposal help with cleanup.

The Whirlpool electric cooktop and trash compactor and the Kenmore built-in oven/microwave certainly must make cooking more enjoyable than the coal stove the original owners used.

Bedroom #1, Bathroom #1, hallway and walk-in closet

With high ceilings, crown molding, and 2 huge windows, this bedroom is cheerful and bright.

A coal/wood stove adds charm to this 14.5 x 12.5 room.

The first floor bathroom (10.5 x 6) has a shower/tub and a big linen closet for storage.

The hallway to the back of the house passes one of the special touches we added on to make the house liveable for modern folks.....

.....a HUGE (10 x 6') walk-in closet with built-in shelves to store tons of stuff! This picture only shows half of it!!

Office, stairway to basement, coat closet

Office Alcove (8 x 6') provides secluded area for paying bills and doing paperwork.

Steel reinforced stairwell to basement........because we had very active little boys!

We went to great lengths to assure the woodwork in the addition would match the original house.

Coat closet ( 7.5 x 3) for easy access to coats when running out the door in a hurry.

The Basement

Stairs to basement.

Notice even the circuit box to the right of the door is framed and stained to match the rest of the woodwork!

Finished basement 22 x 18' is a great rec room as well as an excellent tornado shelter. Frigadaire freezer comes with the house!

Just as much room the other direction (but too much stuff stored there to take a picture!)

Second floor - Bedroom #2

Original gorgeous woodwork is overhead as we head upstairs.....

To begin the tour of the second floor is bedroom #2 (16 x 14.5') - a happy room to wake up in. Notice the pretty crown molding.

Our daughter often fancied herself a Victorian era pioneer girl and thoroughly enjoyed her room.

This wonderful house was built in 1907 by Canyon city founder, Cattleman, Rancher, and Entrepreneur J.A. Edwards.

It could be made into a fabulous Bed & Breakfast!

Bathroom #2

Bathroom # 2 (14 x 9') has a pull-chain toilet and a claw foot tub/shower!

Antique dresser for the sink and there is also a large linen closet.

The original clawfoot tub!

Upstairs hallway between bedrooms #2, 4, 5 and bathroom #2. Notice the original gas lamp on the left (one of three), and the pull-down attic ladder. The attic runs the full length of the house- Talk about storage room! More rooms could be created up there if you needed them.

Close-up of the gas lantern.

Bedrooms 3, 4, 5 and bathroom 3

Bedroom #3 (11 x 10.5) has a door onto a sweet balcony for an early morning check of the weather and a cup of coffee!..... and crown molding too.

....and one of the three original gas lanterns.

This patriotic room (11 x 10.5) was once the room of a WWI veteran. Our son was proud to call it his.

Bedroom #5 (14.5 x 9) was a swell room for our son and many other boys for the past 100 years!

Bathroom #3 (10.5 x 6) has a shower and a large linen closet.
